The Historical Society of Warren County was formed to preserve and
present the history of our region. The Society has called upon its membership base for much needed support.
This is needed today more than ever.
Membership income provides for the preservation of archives and artifacts, for the provision of library and research services,
for education programs for adults and children and for special exhibits in
our Museum and Village. A strong membership motivates the Society
to provide meaningful programs and services. It is also vital to our
efforts to assure that the past is part of the present for this and
future generations. There are numerous membership benefits including
opportunities for corporate support. We hope you will join us in
celebrating our rich and meaningful heritage and become a partner in our
efforts today.
History of The Warren County Historical Society:
March 1 1933, Indianola Mayor C.C. Briggs met with concerned citizens and formed a committee to create a working historical society in Warren County, IA. They realized the need for a permanent place to preserve treasured relics and records. They requested a fire proof room in the new Warren County Courthouse in 1939. They were denied! In May 1942 the Society acquired the fire proof vault of Don Berry. The Society was dormant till the mid 60's. Then they began to raise money and purchased Mt. Hope School. In 1972 the Wallace McKee family donated a Log Cabin. After years of fundraising, September 26, 1976 ground-breaking ceremonies were held for the Museum Building.
