About WCHS
The Warren County Historical Society traces its roots to 1933, when Mayor C.C. Briggs and a group of concerned citizens formed a committee to establish a historical society for Warren County. They saw the need for a permanent place to protect local relics and records, and by the 1960s began building a dedicated facility for the collection. The Heritage Center now operates solely through the commitment of volunteers and members nationwide who invest their time and resources to keep this community treasure thriving.
Our Mission: To collect, preserve, and create interest in the cultural, political, and economic heritage of Warren County, Iowa.
MEETING ROOM
Our dining room facilities and kitchen area are available to members for meetings, family gatherings, parties, etc.
Our History

Indianola Mayor C.C. Briggs met with concerned citizens and formed a committee to create a working historical society in Warren County, IA. They realized the need for a permanent place to preserve treasured relics and records.

They requested a fire proof room in the new Warren County Courthouse in 1939. They were denied!

The Society acquired the fire proof vault of Don Berry. The Society remained dormant till the mid 60’s. Then they began to raise money and purchased Mt. Hope School.

Mt. Hope School purchased and moved to the Heritage Village.
